Discord usernames are unique, lowercase, 2 to 32 characters, and can only use letters a–z, numbers, underscores and periods, never two periods in a row. The old four-digit tags (like #0001) are gone, so the name itself has to be one nobody else has.
Your display name is separate: it can have capitals, spaces and emoji, and it’s what most people see in servers and DMs. So the username can be short and practical, and the personality can go in the display name.
Friends add you by typing your username, so pick something easy to spell out loud. Popular single words are usually taken; a word plus an interest or a short number tends to be free.
